Prison barber is a great job for $2.00 a day
What prison barbers hate the most has nothing to do with barbering. Being locked up is what pisses them off.
Lets get this into perspective. Being in prison has its ups and downs. It has its perks.
Prison barbers rank up there with prison porters for out of cell time. A prison porter is a prisoner who has the job of keeping the block clean. They sweep and mop floors. Wipe down tables and other janitorial type duties.
How do prisoners get haircuts
A prison barber is let out of his cell to go to the prison barbershop. He has to set-up gear and get prepared for the days cuts.
To be a prison barber you have to have a clean disciplinary record in prison. It doesn’t matter if your a murderer.
What your in prison for is not an issue. If your behavior in prison is good, your good.
A prison barber usually is cool with just about everyone in prison.
It doesn’t matter if your a Blood, Crip, White Supremacist, Mafia hitman, or just some dude that got caught stealing a pocketbook.
Prison rules are, if you want your hair cut. your going to get it cut by whomever they choose to put as prison barber.
Now you see how over time being a prison barber can become a very powerful position. They deal with different gang factions and affiliations. Which is how they hear things.
Barbers can get words to people that are in different cell blocks. They hear the chatter of big mouth C.O’s. And one of the biggest things they can do is get word out to population from people buried in the hole. The hole is solidary confinement.
How do you get to solidary? You get there by getting rule infractions in prison.
Infractions like fighting, drug selling and sexual misconduct. A disciplinary board made up of 2 brass (Superior ranking officers), a prison counselor and a witness, who is normally a low ranking officer.
How often do inmates get haircuts in prison? What prison barbers hate the most.
Prisoners in the solitary confinement are allowed one haircut a month.
The prison barber shows up in the solidary confinement unit with his clippers it becomes a party. A welcome change from the tedious 23 hour a day lockdown.
Prisoners start yelling from their cells “Yo whaddup”. They start jockeying for position to the C.O. to be first. Its like a holiday in a cell block of the most dangerous individuals in a maximum security prison.
Its a welcomed chance for the inmates to get cleaned up a little.
And the correctional officers can get a break from getting urine and feces thrown at them every time they pass certain cells. Some of these dudes have not seen their face in a mirror for a month.
As the barber is cutting, inmates are asking questions like. What’s going on in population? Did the Patriots win Sunday?
Who got they ass whupped?
They talk about their kids, wives and girlfriends. The prison barber is in some ways like a bartender. He gives answers and listens to problems.

A bartender listens to people and its cool. People do crazy things sometimes.
On the streets some idiots like to rape other people. In prisons across the United States of America, people who commit these type of crimes are considered scumbags.
When they enter prison these inmates cannot go to general population. The fact is that other inmates will attempt to kill them.
They are called Tree Jumpers, and Diddlers by other inmates.
They end up entering what is called Protective Custody. Punk City or P.C for short. These same at risk inmates sometimes end up in solidary confinement if the PC unit is full.
The same way a prisoner cannot pick and choose what barber they want, that goes for the prison barber also. They cannot choose whos hair they want to cut. What do prison barbers hate the most? They hate having to cut a Rapist hair.

Prison officials took note that some inmates were hiding weapons like razors and sharp mettle objects in their hair.
If a prisoner refused to cut their hair. They would be subject to disciplinary actions. They could lose good time or be tossed in the hole.
This all changed when a prisoner refused to cut his hair on religious grounds. he was a Rastafarian who refused to cut his dreadlocks. He partitioned the courts and the courts ruled in his favor.
Department of Corrections cannot force inmates to cut their hair. Its now law. It violates religious freedom.

Protocol in woman prisons are the same as men’s prisons. There are not any beauty salons in a woman’s prison.
Inmates can get their hair cut once a week.
Prisoners submit their names to a barber list. And the list is on a first come first served basis.
And like the men’s prison, no payment required, the cuts are free.
Haircut styles are plain nothing fancy. Woman inmates like their male counterparts are able to order some basic cosmetics from commissary if they have money in their prison accounts.
They by things like skin lotion, hair grease and such.
Certain grooming items are allowed to be kept in your cell.
Plastic combs, plastic hair brush are two. Inmates braid each others hair.

Why prisoners hair is cut at execution?
It is no complicated reason why they cut a doomed inmates hair. Electrical current needs to pass unhindered. Applied directly to the skin, current flows faster.
Hair could potentially slow down the current, thus slowing the execution. This could make the execution painful for inmate. You could say its a humanitarian gesture.
Prison barbers perfect their craft because they simply get more practice. It is not much to do in prison but workout or read books to learn something new or start trouble.
Starting trouble ends up getting you sent to the solitary confinement.
Prison Barbers have nothing but time to get better at cutting. I’m talking about hair of course.
