WHAT IS NAPPY HAIR?

How to cut nappy hair. Nappy hair is a term that is associated with the hair texture of African Americans. Black people have naturally curly hair. Tightly twined and somewhat coarse hair. When wore in the natural state it can be very stunningly beautiful. Unfortunately the word nappy has been used by some people in a negative disparaging way to describe African Americans.

This has had a lasting negative affect on some black people who see their natural beautifully kinky hair as unattractive. Some choose to chemically straighten, wear a wig to cover, or outright shave it all off.

In the 17th century uncouth individuals who held the position of slave traders used the word NAPPY to describe people of African decent.

Large kinky afro hair

It must be noted that some black people choose to straighten, wear a wig covering or shave their hair NOT from any negative influences, but simply as a personal beauty choice.

HOW TO DEAL WITH KINKY HAIR IN YOUR HOUSE

Sometimes cutting your hair can be a major pain in the butt. But its something that should be done regularly to encourage hair growth. And if your trying to quickly get to that awesome afro, it sometimes seems like cutting it is going in the wrong direction.

First thing to keep in mind when dealing with curly/kinky hair is to make moisturizing priority. You should use curly hair products with the correct amount of hydrating additive. With curly or kinky hair, your entire process of hair caring should be with moisturizing in the number one spot of importance.

You should use a shampoo that specializes in suppling moisture to kinky or course hair like Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Shampoo. As talked about in Stylecraze.com. Get yourself a good conditioner also. Kinky hair can withstand heavier oils that can weigh down less course hair.

DOES LEAVING YOUR KINKY HAIR HELP IT GROW FASTER?

Kinky hair normally has an erratic growing rhythm. Although it looks strong, it is actually more susceptible to have breakage. Kinky hair grows at the same clip as any other hair. Its not going to grow any faster or any slower by leaving it nappy. But if you totally neglect it, you might find yourself with a lot of breaks, which can eventually slow growth.

WHY WAHL CLIPPERS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST. (NAPPY HAIR EXPERIMENT)

HIP HOP BARBER

Wahl clippers are the best for nappy hair because the experiment conducted by HipHopBarbersSupply.com proves it. HHBS made a attached video with a pair of Wahl clippers. The clippers used are a pair that is at least 5 years old.

These Wahl clippers have never been maintained in any way shape or form. They have never been oiled at all. The blades were never taken off and cleaned. How many times they have been dropped on solid surfaces is at least 50 times. Its amazing that the clippers have even been dropped into water and drenched.

https://www.pinterest.com/Noonboobie/hiphopbarbersupply/

But the Wahl clippers worked perfectly in the video experiment on how to cut nappy hair. HipHopBarbersSupply CEO Greg Townes demonstrated how effortlessly the the clippers shaved his head to the skin. There was no skin pinching. The clippers were not at all noisy. The Wahl clippers was not hot to the skin. They passed every test protocol.

WHY IS BLACK HAIR SO DRY?

Anytime black peoples hair is dry, its a direct result of lack of moisture. Your head naturally provides oil for your hair. But unlike straight hair, curly, kinky hair keeps the oils from easily getting to the end of the hair. This leaves parts of the hair ends to lack in moisture. Thus causing dryness and potentially breakage.

WHAT CAUSES KINKY HAIR?

Black peoples hair in its natural state is at risk of developing a condition called lepothrix. Common everyday mechanics can possibly cause it. Simple things like scratching your scalp. The abrasion of combing can possibly cause knotting of the hair which doesn’t help.

Just wash your hair regularly, condition and moisturize. Use a nice conditioner and treat damaged hair, and you will be fine.

WHAT IS KINKY HAIR? HOW TO CUT NAPPY HAIR?

Afro-textured hair, or kinky hair, is the hair texture of populations in Africa, their diaspora and parts of Southeast Asia. Each strand of this hair type grows in a tiny, angle-like helix shape. The overall effect is such that, contrasted with straight, wavy or curly hair,[1] afro-textured hair appears denser.

IS BEING A BARBER RIGHT FOR ME ?

Lets be honest. Being a barber is not for everyone. Some people are not willing to put in the time to build clientele required to build your barber business. Others love to cut hair but shun the responsibility of being the day to day entrepreneur. For these individuals being an employee would better suit them. Being a barber is better suited for extroverts as opposed to introverts. Extroverts are like the energizing bunny when it comes to socializing in large groups of people. They usually have a bigger network of friends instead of a couple of intimate friends. Introverts are the opposite. They thrive in spending time alone or with a smaller network of friends. Both groups have their advantages but extroverts are better suited for barbering.

I’m going to help you with that question all of you wonder about. Can clippers get too hot? HipHopBarbersSupply.com is going to ease your mind.

THIS BARBER IS GETTIN IT IN. FIRE TREATMENT ON CUSTOMER.
THIS BARBER IS GETTIN IT IN. FIRE TREATMENT ON CUSTOMER.

The answer is yes. Clippers can get too hot. Here is why clippers get hot. Clipper progress is like any other technology. It has got better. Clippers are faster now.

Clipper motors of the past ran on a 2000 strokes per minute rotation. New and improved professional grade clippers now run at 4000 strokes per rotation. Clipper blades need to be lubricated with oil regularly.

The main reason the blades produce more heat is because they dry out with the increased friction.

There are three types of motor design for hair clippers. There is Rotary, Magnet and Pivot.

They each have there advantages and disadvantages. They vary in variable speeds, torque and friction heat. Here is a chart explaining some of the differences.

  • ROTARY- Circular motion to linear. (CAM). Rechargeable battery, very simple and cheap. Variable speed.
  • MAGNET MOTOR- Fastest clipper in the market, (Barber Workhorse). 60HZ A.C. Power, Spring Push Action, 120HZ-Blade Speed. 120HZ*60s=7200 RPM. Spring-Push Action results in Low Torque. High speed results in high heat.
  • PIVOT MOTOR- Magnetic Pull Action, (Blades sideways) 60HZ*60s=3600 RPM. High Torque, Low Blade Speed, Low Friction Heat.

Why do my clipper blades get so hot?

The same way a cars engine pistons need motor oil to stay lubricated to run smoothly. The mettle from the blades on clippers also need the lubrication from oil to runs smoothly.

It is normal for clippers to get hot with use. Barbers cut hair for up to 8 hours a day. That is a long time for blades to be rubbing together at high speeds. Mettle that is not properly lubricated will start to expand. This is what can cause clippers to seize up.

VIDEO ON WHY HAIR CLIPPERS GET HOT.

How do you keep hair clippers from getting hot?

All clippers are eventually going to get a little hot. You could be using Wahl, Andis, Oster or any other brand. They are going to get hot. This is why barber equipment needs proper maintenance.

You should keep the blades lubricated because it will help to reduce some of the heat of the blades rubbing together at high speeds.

If you are using a pair of Andis clippers. A good choice for your clipper hydration should be, Andis Cool Care Plus for clipper blades. Its a 5 in 1 cleaner that helps as a blade coolant, disinfectant, lubricant, cleaner and rust preventer.

If your cutting with Wahl clippers, Id recommend using Wahl Premium Clipper Blade Oil. It helps prevent rust from accumulating as well as extending the life of the clippers and blades.

You want to keep them clippers cool because people don’t act nice when you turn their neck into a piece of bacon.

How to oil clippers. Can clippers get too hot?

All this talk about torque, blade friction, blades and oil. What about how to actually apply the oil to the clipper blades.

Hair clippers should be oiled regularly on a normal scheduled routine on your clipper investment. Oiling your clippers is relatively easy. Its not a large burden considering the benefits of taking the time to do it.

The enormous payoff for a small yet tedious choir is. Extended blade life on your clippers. Oiling reduces the likelihood of rust accumulating on the blades. It also helps the blades to deliver a much smoother cut to the hair.

Imagine trying to cut a piece of steak with a butter knife. Dull blades reduce the barber experience to utter frustration. The oil stops the friction and in turn drastically reduces the heat.

Lubrication is the key. Can clippers get too hot?

HipHopBarbersSupply recommends you oil your clippers before each use. To begin take your clippers in your hand. Hold them vertically upside down. Take a fine bristled brush and brush off all hair clinging to blades. Some pros prefer to use a common toothbrush.

While the clippers are running spray some disinfectant on the running blades. Make sure you spray in between the blades and on the sides of the blades.

HOW TO OIL YOUR HAIR CLIPPERS VIDEO.

Pat the clippers dry with a paper towel. Now they are disinfected. Now your ready to apply the oil. Take notice that you should never apply the oil in one long strip across the blades.

If you do this it will lubricate just fine. But you will be left with the problem of gunk build up in the middle later on from the excessive oil.

With the clippers running you put one drop on one end of the blade. Then you put another drop in the middle. The third drop goes on the opposite side of the first drop.

You can rotate the clippers slowly to get a even distribution of the oil on the clipper blades. It is not wrong if you personally like to put a little oil on the side track. But its not required.

Why wont my clippers cut my hair

If your clippers are not cutting correctly or not at all. It could be a couple of things wrong. Dull clippers will instead of cutting hair evenly, the blades will pull at hair as it cuts. This will leave crooked uneven cuts. Its a good idea to keep your clipper blades nice and sharp.

If your clipper blades become dull from neglecting to oil them. Or if they are dull due to natural wear and tear. The only recourse of action you have left is to have a professional sharpen the blades for you. The other option is to just simply replace the blades with new ones.

cash register and haircutting tools on black cloth

How do I know if my clipper blades are dull?

To test if your clipper blades are dull. Remove the blades from your clippers. The top blade on your clippers is the cutter blade. This is the blade that does the cutting, hence cutter blade. If you run your finger very gently across the teeth of the cutter blade, you will be able to test the sharpness of it.

What happens if you don’t clean your clippers?

Dirty hair stylist tools on dark hairy table
Dirty hair stylist tools on dark hairy table

If you neglect to clean your clippers regularly they will not cut well. They will grab hair. They will snag and pull. It is a good chance they will start irritating skin that they touch.

Clippers need to be taken care of. You wouldn’t just get in your car and drive it without ever checking oil levels would you? Using clippers over and over without cleaning them could leave you with some troubling circumstances.

Barbers that cut a clients hair and then move on to another client without cleaning and disinfecting their clippers is playing a dangerous game. Dirty clippers are unsanitary so clean your clippers.

How can I keep my clippers cool?

To keep clippers cool you have a number of different disinfectants, clipper oils and sprays that do the trick. With the blades constantly rubbing together it creates tremendous friction. Oils and sprays on the market help. Sprays dry up pretty quickly. Oils last much longer for keeping the blades adequately lubricated.

Based on your cutting schedule, you can begin to determine when its the appropriate time to oil your clippers. If your a very busy barber, you can judge when its time for oil by the number of heads you cut.

After a while you will know about the time it takes your clippers to start drying out. You will begin to know when they are starting to run a little hot. That will be your warning. As stated earlier, you do not want to have the metal getting too hot.

Hot clippers touching a neck is absolutely not comfortable. You can learn to know when to change the cutter blade.

Frankenstrat and Lucille never ran hot.

With experience you will begin to know when to switch to another pair of clippers to let the hot ones cool off for a while.

Professional barber clippers are made pretty sturdy these days. So we are talking an awful lot of cuts before you encounter this problem.

With that said, get to know your clippers. After time you will start to know every little whining noise your clippers make. If your clippers pull in the slightest way you will know.

Listen to your clippers and they will tell you what’s wrong with them. Soon you will know them as much as B.B. King knew his guitar Lucille. You will know your clippers as well as Eddie Van Halen knew his guitar Frankenstrat.
