You might think this is a silly question. Are fat barbers better at cutting?

Trust me, I’ve got my hair cut by tall short fat and skinny barbers.

You would be surprised at what I’ve discovered.

Are fat barbers better at cutting?

Yes fat barbers are better at cutting hair. This is not a knock on skinny barbers. If you just go by the numbers. The numbers support this fact. If you take into account that there are more fat barbers than skinny barbers.

It makes logical sense to conclude that a vast majority of the number of fat barbers that are good would dwarf the number of skinny barbers that are good, simply because there are more.

If in the NFL draft their was 3 projected top-ten running backs coming out of college.

And it was a draft heavy 10 projected top-ten offensive linemen coming out of college.

It would be safe to say the talent at offensive line coming out of college that particular year. That group would be better in comparison to the talent at running back.

Let me put it another way. With over 82.6% of Americans overweight., obese or severely obese. And the remaining 17.4% of Americans at a normal weight using a Body Mass Index, or (BMI).

I think it would be safe to say the talent pool for potential barbers, that would be coming out of the 82.6% would be substantially higher than the talent pool that would be coming out of the remaining 17.4% talent pool.

If you take it one step further. You can conclude that out of the people that chose to be barbers. The majority of them would belong to the overweight category. If all 17.4% were great barbers.

It would take less than 30% of the 82.6% to match their success rate. Are fat barbers better at cutting?

And that is a conservative estimate.

How to tell if you have a good barber.

One of the first and most important ways to tell if you have a good barber is to check out how neat and clean his/her shop is.

If someone else hair is on the floor or on any of the equipment/tools, that’s a tell tell sign your barber is a slob. Are fat barbers better at cutting?

If their shop looks like a tornado hit it run. They are not washing their shop. Chances are they are not washing their ass either.

If they are not washing their ass, they are surely not washing and sterilizing their clippers.

How to find a good barber?

To find a good barber, ask lots of questions. How long have you been cutting? Did you go to barber school? Barbers that dodge these type of questions usually are dodging something else.

Take note of any certificates hanging on the wall. If a barber has them, you can rest assure he/she will be proudly displaying them.

Take note if conversation flows easily. Barbers are in some ways like bartenders. They are good listeners. They deal with the public on the regular and are accustomed to shooting the breeze.

You don’t really want a grumpy guy cutting your hair. If he doesn’t like his job. He will take short cut on the meticulous attention to detail he should be giving you.

If you walk in a barbershop and their are 5 barber chairs in the shop. Four of the chairs are occupied with barbers cutting a customers hair. Standing by the last open chair, you see a dude with purple bell-bottom pants on.

He has a 1970’s afro pic in a raggedy nappy afro that reminds you of the Tasmanian devil. And he looks at you and smiles exposing a mouth with about three teeth, and they are rotten.

He starts waving you over saying C’mon C’mon ova yo. Run out the door as fast as you can. That isn’t the barber or place for you.

If you are getting your hair cut and you find yourself holding your breath at any time.

Maybe its because the barbers breath smells like used kitty litter. That’s not the barber or place for you.
